Another post finally. Well, just for update purposes, our tuanqi has changed from saturday afternoon to friday nights. So do join us after a hectic school day and to come and relax, share as well as learn together with us on this Friday nights! Yes, many might say that "It's the weekends-to-be, i want to rest and finally get some rest time!" Well, but still lets still make it a point to put tuanqi and GOD first yea? It is because of him that we get our holidays and weekends! Whoa some wise words man. HAHA.. Okay so do join us on fridays! 7.30 where we will be having our combined praise and worship before starting our activities.

After a funfilled and very enjoyable church camp experience to Pulai Springs in Malaysia, we will be having our sharing session this saturday in room 305. We would most probably be going to share our camping experience and reflections with each other as well as what we have gained from the Sermon given by the guest pastor during the trip. Also, even if you have not attended the church camp, you are still MOST invited to come for the post camp experience. Hope to see you guys there!!

Hello all,

Since it's GOOD Friday, I'd thought it'll be nice for this blog to be updated... So I shall share with you guys a story.

"Once, there was this church. And a visitor, well, visited it.

He got there early, parked his car, and got out. Then, a car stopped in front of him, and the driver wound down the window and said, "Hey! That's where I usually park! You took my place!" and drove off to find another parking lot.

The visitor then went inside the church. It happened that there was a prayer meeting before service, so he sat down and joined in. A lady approached him and said,"Hey! That's my seat! You took my place!" Naturally, the visitor was perturbed by such treatment in a church, and went to another seat.

After the prayer meeting, service started. The visitor then took a seat. Yet again, another person came up to him and said, "Hey! I sit here every week! You took my place!" Obviously, the visitor was further troubled by this welcome he got. He stood up and went to the back of the sanctuary.

Later during the sermon, the speaker prayed, and said, "Oh Lord, please forgive us and our sins, and let your Son be amongst us."

The visitor stood up, and his appearance began to change. His wrists were visibly scarred, and his hair grew longer, and longer.

A member of the congregation spotted him and called out "Jesus Christ, what happened to you?!"

The visitor looked at him solemnly, by then his clothes changed into a humble robe, sandals replaces his shoes and a crown of thorns appeared on his head, he said

"I took your place"

Hope you guys liked and learned from that story.

Since I've got nothing much else to say, I shall dispense interesting facts about Holy Week.

- The 7 days leading up to Easter is easily confused as 'Easter Week', which actually refers to the week following Easter Sunday.

-Passover (the festival to commemorate the sparing of Jewish first-borns in Egypt) is related to Easter, because Jesus was really arrested during Passover. The date of Easter is actually calculated in accordance to the date of Passover.

-The 40 days leading up to Easter is termed "Lent", which is from the German word "Lenz", meaning Spring, as in Winter, Autumn, Summer and Spring.

-Ironically, the word "lent" in French means slow, although people are supposed to repent and fast during Lent.

Evangelistic Sports Day!!

Ok this is a long awaited post. Well its like this, theres going to be a very special event coming up for BSF this saturday,28 March, from .30pm onwards. Yes!! Its the SPORTS DAY!!!

So basically we will be playing alot of sports games ranging from small games to sweat-it-all-out games. Its going to be real awesome and we have two of our very own and very best people in charge of the whole event, Kenneth and Joel. So what are you waiting for? This is a chance not to be missed so please contact Samantha and tell her whether you are going NOW! Oh and be sure to bring water and extra clothes on that day. Yep so thats it. No matter rain or shine, this saturday's event is surely going to be fun-filled and will almost definitely make you sweat.Although we are still in the process of planning the event for YOU guys, with only certain issues left to consider, we hope that you guys can help by making yourselves free this saturday and support our event. just wanna share something about God's wonderful timing and plans..
I believe many of us feels that it's not easy to talk to your relatives and friends about your religion.. let alone talking to a stranger about it..
well.. this is what happened.. which i hope will be able to encourage everyone of you..

on sunday night.. after Stephen Tong Gospel Rally..
i was on my way walking out of the stadium..
as i took the escalator down to the carpark..
i hesitated on whether to take their free shuttle service to Kallang MRT or to take their stadium direct bus to Yio Chu Kang which is nearer to my house..
when i saw the long queue for the free shuttle service to Kallang MRT station..
i decided to take the stadium direct bus instead..
therefore.. i boarded the bus heading towards Yio Chu Kang..
not long after i board the bus.. this auntie and her friend came up and sat next to me..
becoz there are no any other seats available.. (her friend sat opposite her.. )
well.. i was alone.. therefore.. i put on my mp3.. and start thinking about how long the journey might take me..

after a while..
i realise this auntie keep turning her head and look at me..
i was quite confused on what's going on.. and a bit embarrassed too..
so i smiled back.. but she looked away.. =
so i continued listening to my mp3.. trying to pretend i din smile at her..
but after a min or 2.. she turned and looked at me again..
i still felt quite puzzled.. coz this auntie looks like she wanna talk to me..
so deciding to try my luck.. i kept my mp3 away into my bag..
i keep thinking if this auntie is trying to talk to me.. but she din say anything neither did she turn and stare at me.. when i was still thinking about how funny all these had happened..
the auntie suddenly turned and looked at me again..
finally this auntie initiated the conversation..
"xiao mei.. can share with auntie how you came to know Christ?" well.. she asked in chinese..whoa.. i was quite surprised.. not that part about she initiating the conversation.. but the part on how she knows i'm a christian..anyway.. i told her i was born in a christian family.. she said.. that's good.. and she only got baptised 3 years ago.. and she started sharing how she came to know Christ.. then i was feeling quite peaceful when i listen to her talk.. she shared quite a lot.. and she suddenly gave me a flower which she had taken from the Gospel Rally.. i was touched by her actions.. and therefore.. i took the flower from her.. then after a while.. she handed me another lily..
i looked at the flowers.. not becoz the flowers were extraordinary special or what.. but becoz of this special auntie seated next to me.. many thoughts were running in my mind.. thinking how amazing God placed all these "coincidences" together.. then the story is not yet over becoz the journey is not over yet also..so this auntie continued to choose 2 flowers.. and tapped the couple standing in front of us.. "xiao jie.. zhe ge hua song gei ni.. ye su ai ni.."the lady was quite shocked by the auntie's actions..but she took the flowers.. she then went on to ask if they had believed in Christ.. then the 4 of us started chatting..after chatting for a while.. the couple said they were from Myanmmar.. haha.. i almost wanted to say.."hey hey.. i went to Myanmmar before.."
well.. but that is so not me.. so i din say mention anything.. =S

after i alighted.. i was quite happy and touched.. becoz i thought about how this auntie cared for a stranger.. i'm just a stranger to her.. but we managed to share about how Christ came into our lives.. i hope that all of us will be encouraged by this.. to think about how can we care for our friends.. She talked to a stranger.. and cared about this stranger's salvation..

whoa.. i just realised what a long post i've posted.. =S

remember the time we went to ubin. and we cycled
and even went to chek jawa? with tau wei.
yes, the one where some of us fell.
and the one where we climbed up those flights of stairs
to reach the top of the tower

let me try and recall. i think

well. back to topic. soooo. after that we went for lunch
and sat down to play the name calling game
with the sea creatures and islands
with that stack of poker cards.
and i think i was complaining (joel)
when these people were filming us.

here comes the wonderful part.
we were aired on channel U for 30 seconds?
as part of a 'discover what ubin's like' documentary

know why we were aired?
this was what they said,
'the kids here have no sorrows or worries,
they play and look forward to a new day'
hah!
let's meet up to play every day then. haha.

or at least, let's look forward to tomorrow
'cause, i can face tommorrowwww.
because he lives...
haha

Eric Liddell was an Olympic runner from Britain who won
a gold medal in the 1924 Paris Olympics.
He was a man who had a deep commitment to the Lord
and had future plans of being a missionary.
In the meantime, he knew God had given him
a special gift to run,
and he often said,
“I feel God’s pleasure when I run.”

He spent years training for the Olympics.
He passed each hurdle and
qualified for the Olympics.
Finally, the day came for him to run in the games
that were held in Italy.
There was only one problem.
One of his running events was held on Sunday.
Liddell refused to run on Sunday,
believing it dishonored the Lord’s Sabbath.
He held to his convictions and brought
great persecution on himself.
He made a decision that even if
it meant losing his opportunity
to compete, he would not run.
God’s laws were greater than man’s applause.
Just when the circumstances seemed hopeless,
another situation arose that allowed
Liddell to run on a different day.

So often this is the case in the spiritual realm.
God tests our hearts to see if we will
remain faithful to Him
at the cost of something important to us.
Once He knows where our loyalty lies,
He opens a new door that meets
the desires of our hearts.

God takes pleasure in seeing His creation
used for His glory.
Liddell understood why he was made to run;
he used his gift of running to bring
pleasure to his Creator.
Later, Eric Liddell went on to
serve God on the mission field.

Does your life work bring pleasure to the Lord?
Do you understand that
God instilled certain gifts and
talents in you so that He might find
pleasure in His creation of you?

Take pleasure in the gifts God
has given to you this day.

And let His glory shine through you.

Synod Games Day 2008.

synod games day coming up on the 31st may (saturday). This is organised by the synod youth ministry. concept is different this year. There wouldnt be any soccer matches (like every other year), but instead a sort of cyber amazing race. It sounds pretty bizarre when I first heard it, but yes it involves wit and a fair bit of direction sense I believe. apparently, clues are reveale with teams contacting each other via msn on their lappies with which i've no idea what connection maybe wireless@sg) Island-wide. some running. sounds great! pls signup with Denise now!

Here's something to share.

A teenage girl about 17 had gone to visit

some friends one evening

and time passed quickly as each shared

their various experiences of the past year.

She ended up staying longer than planned,

and had to walk home alone.

She wasn't afraid because it was a small town

and she lived only a few blocks away.

As she walked along under the tall elm trees,

Diane asked God to keep her safe

from harm and danger.

When she reached the alley,

which was a short cut to her house,

she decided to take it.

However, halfway down the alley

she noticed a man standing

at the end as though he were waiting for her.

She became uneasy and began to pray,

asking for God's protection.

Instantly a comforting feeling of

quietness and security

wrapped round her,

she felt as though someone was

walking with her.

When she reached the end of the alley,

she walked right past the man

and arrived home safely.

The following day,

she read in the newspaper that

a young girl had been raped in the same alley

just twenty minutes after she had been there.

Feeling overwhelmed by this tragedy

and the fact that it could have been her,

she began to weep.

Thanking the Lord for her safety

and to help this young woman,

she decided to go to the police station.

She felt she could recognize the man,

so she told them her story.

The police asked her if she would be willing

to look at a lineup to see if she could identify him.

She agreed and immediately pointed out

the man she had seen in the alley the night before.

When the man was told he had been identified,

he immediately broke down and confessed.

The officer thanked Diane for her bravery

and asked if there was anything

they could do for her.

She asked if they would ask

the man one question.

Diane was curious as to why

he had not attacked her.

When the policeman asked him, he answered,

"Because she wasn't alone.

She had two tall men walking on either side of her."

hello people.

went for a musical, 'thief of all times' last sat 15/3. it's about how the devil manages to keep stealing our time all this time. the play portrays two main things.

firstly how the devil keeps occupying our time. be it with school, homework, CCAs, playtime, go-out time, or slack time. dont you think there will always be something else to do, to complete, when we want to give God some of our time. be it to read the bible or talking to Him. always by the time we have time we want to play or learn something new, switch on the tv, go on the computer or we're simply too tired.

will we let the devil do this.or have we been letting the devil do this. have we been constantly praying through the day, talking and listening to God? have we been digging up gold in His best-seller?

number two. how the devil makes us uninterested in God's words. we always got so much else to do. day after day after day. i mean. most of us are more than 16. have we been reading the bible? have we been praying and committing our lives to God? or have we been procrastinating? have we been letting this thief steal our precious time with God? i mean like. opening the bible doesnt seem quite interesting, does it? compared to other things.

well, i felt that this was quite meaningful. so here it is. let us be reminded not to procrastinate.

the evangelistic tea party (without tea), is this sat 22/3. let us try to invite some friends over to let them know about our personal saviour. it's a good chance to get into the topic of Jesus. hope to see them around so we can talk to them. thanks

'Persuade the wives to go to work for long hours and the husbands to work 6-7 days each week, 10-12 hours a day, so they can afford their empty lifestyles.' 'Keep them from spending time with their children.'
'As their families fragment, soon, their homes will offer no escape from the pressures of work!' 'Over-stimulate their minds so that they cannot hear that still, small voice.'

'Entice them to play the radio or cassette player whenever they drive.' 'Flood their mailboxes with junk mail, mail order catalogs, sweepstakes, and every kind of newsletter and promotional offering free products, services and false hopes..'
'Keep skinny, beautiful models on the magazines and TV so their husbands will believe that outward beauty is what's important, and they'll become dissatisfied with their wives. '
'Keep the wives too tired to love their husbands at night.' 'Give them headaches too! '
'If they don't give their husbands the love they need, they will begin to look elsewhere.'
'That will fragment their families quickly!'

'Give them Santa Claus to distract them from teaching their children the real meaning of Christmas.'
'Give them an Easter bunny so they won't talk about his resurrection and power over sin and death.'
'Even in their recreation, let them be excessive.'

'Crowd their lives with so many good causes they have no time to seek power from Jesus.'

'It will work!' 'It will work!' It was quite a plan! The demons went eagerly to their assignments causing Christians everywhere to get busier and more rushed, going here and there. Having little time for their God or their families.

Having no time to tell others about the power of Jesus to change lives. I guess the question is, has the devil been successful in his schemes?

You be the judge!!!!! Does 'BUSY' mean: B-eing U-nder

I'm here to share about something I think is really meaningful from a forwarded email, of all things. I actually forwarded the email but dunno if any of you deleted it without reading it or whatever, so here's a repost.

Let me tell you, make sure you read all the way to the bottom.

I almost deleted this email but I was blessed when I got to the end

God, when I received this e-mail I thought... "I don't have time for this... And, this is really inappropriate during work."

Then, I realized that this kind of thinking is... Exactly, what has caused lot of the problems in our world today.

We try to keep God in church on Sunday morning.. Maybe, Sunday night... And, the unlikely event of a midweek service.

We do like to have Him around during sickness.. And, of course, at funerals.

However, we don't have time, or room, for Him during work or play...

Because.. That's the part of our lives we think... We can, and should, handle on our own. May God forgive me for ever thinking... That... there is a time or place where.. HE is not to be FIRST in my life. We should always have time to remember all HE has done for us.

If, You aren't ashamed to do this... Please follow the directions.
Jesus said, 'If you are ashamed of me, I will be ashamed of you before my Father'

Not ashamed?
Pass this on ONLY IF YOU MEAN IT!!

Yes, I do Love God.
HE is my source of existence and Savior.
He keeps me functioning each and every day. Without Him, I will be nothing. But, with Christ, HE strengthens me. (Phil 4:13)

This is the simplest test.

Easy vs. Hard

Why is it so hard to tell the truth but Yet so easy to tell a lie?

Why are we so sleepy in church but Right when the sermon is over we suddenly wake up?

Why is it so hard to talk about God but yet so easy to talk about nasty stuff?

Why is it so easy to delete a Godly e- mail, but yet we forward all of the nasty ones?

Why are the churches getting smaller but yet the bars and dance clubs are getting larger?

There once was a man named George Thomas, pastor in a small New England town.

One Easter Sunday morning he came to the Church carrying a rusty, bent, old bird cage, and set it by the pulpit.

Eyebrows were raised and, as if in response, Pastor Thomas began to speak...'I was walking through town yesterday when I saw a young boy coming toward me swinging this bird cage. On the bottom of the cage were three little wild birds, shivering with cold and fright.

I stopped the lad and asked, 'What you got there, son?' 'Just some old birds,' came the reply.

'What are you gonna do with them?' I asked.

'Take 'em home and have fun with 'em,' he answered 'I'm gonna tease 'em and pull out their feathers to make 'em fight. I'm gonna have a real good time'

'But you'll get tired of those birds sooner or later. What will you do?'

'Oh, I got some cats,' said the little boy. 'They like birds. I'll take 'em to them.'

The pastor was silent for a moment. 'How much do you want for those birds, son?'

'Huh?? !!! Why, you don't want them birds, mister. They're just plain old field birds. They don't sing. They ain't even pretty!'

'How much?' the pastor asked again.

The boy sized up the pastor as if he were crazy and said, '$10?'

The pastor reached in his pocket and took out a ten dollar bill. He> placed it in the boy's hand. In a flash, the boy was gone.

The pastor picked up the cage and gently carried it to the end of the alley where there was a tree and a grassy spot setting the cage down, he opened the door, and by softly tapping the bars persuaded the birds out, setting them free.

Well, that explained the empty bird cage on the pulpit, and then the pastor began to tell this story.

One day Satan and Jesus were having a conversation. Satan had just come from the Garden of Eden, and he was gloating and boasting. 'Yes, sir, I just caught the world full of people down there. Set me a trap, used bait I knew they couldn't resist. Got 'em all!'

'What are you going to do with them?' Jesus asked.

Satan replied, 'Oh, I'm gonna have fun! I'm gonna teach them how to marry and divorce each other, how to hate and abuse each other, how to drink and smoke and curse. I'm gonna teach them how to invent guns and bombs and kill each other. I'm really gonna have fun!'

'And what will you do when you get done with them?' Jesus asked.

'Oh, I'll kill 'em,' Satan glared proudly.

'How much do you want for them?' Jesus asked

'Oh, you don't want those people. They ain't no good. Why, you'll take them and they'll just hate you. They'll spit on you, curse you and kill you. You don't want those people!!'

'How much?' He asked again.

Satan looked at Jesus and sneered, 'All your blood, tears and your life.'

Jesus said, 'DONE!'

Then He paid the price.

The pastor picked up the cage he opened the door and he walked from the pulpit.

Notes: Isn't it funny how simple it is for people to trash God and then wonder why the world's going to hell.

Isn't it funny how someone can say 'I believe in God' but still follow Satan (who, by the way, also 'believes' in God).

Isn't it funny how you can send a thousand jokes through e-mail and they spread like wildfire, but when you start sending messages regarding the Lord, people think twice about sharing?

Isn't it funny how when you go to forward this message, you will not send it to many on your address list because you're not sure what they believe, or what they will think of you for sending it to them.

Isn't it funny how I can be more worried about what other people think of me than what God thinks of me.

I pray, for everyone who sends this to their entire address book, they will be blessed by God in a way special for them. And send it back to the person who sent it, to let them know that indeed it was sent out to many more.

I think this email really reflects how Christians in the world live their lives nowadays. They can prioritise themselves and their needs, work, studies, fun before they prioritise God, and yet claim themselves to be Christians. Such is the extent of materialism in this place.

Hello everyone!

I would like to share something I think is a great testimony to Christianity.

If you have read The Newpaper on today (Sunday, 05 November), page 10, it's an article on this lady who returned 360 bucks to SBS for the bus fare she didnt pay more than a decade ago.

It says in the article that she stopped cheating on bus fares since she became a Christian, but 'conviniently' forgot about the ones she cheated on. Then, one day, she was in prayer and felt uber remorseful and decided to repay SBS the amount of money.

Not that I encourage bus fare cheating, but she is a great testimony to how believeing in Christ has changed a person's life.

Pulau Belakang Mati

Hello people!

I'm finally here to post the pictures from last week's outing to Pulau Belakang Mati (aka Sentosa Island)!!

Fyi, in the 70s, the Singapore Tourism Board decided to change the name from Pulau Belakang Mati to Sentosa because Mati doesn't sound very ominous for a tourist spot. Sentosa means tranquil in Malay. But true to it's original name, Sentosa's Fantasy Island and Asian Village had fatalities because of the lack of safety in its rides.

We had to go and take pictures with several landmarks on the island like the Merlion and all.

My group had me, Yu Xun, Yi Wei and Sheena. The amazing thing was that we managed to complete the checkpoints and finish first but we did not take the tram or bus or anything!

Well, it was partly because we didnt manage to catch the tram and were not patient enough to wait for it either. -_-

Anyway, here are some of the the pics that didnt have bad lighting!

Headed down to Imbiah Station and had well-deserved Movenpick ice cream!

Found out that Angie's team was already there, looking well-relaxed and all. That's because they took the tram and bus half the time.

Anyway, it was a very fruitful day coz it's actually my first visit to Pulau Belakang Mati (aka Sentosa Island) in this Millenium!

And thanks to the organiser for the day Angie for a job well done!

Now, to the next part of my post...

Have any of you heard of this thing called Google Earth before?

It's actually a satellite technology by Google that takes pictures of Earth from its satellite and transmits it to this program.

It's uber cool I tell you, you can have a bird-eye's view of things like the road leading to the Eiffel Tower to a !Kung Bushman village in the Saharan area to each ship in the sea and all!

The best thing is, it's absolutely free!

(Note: It's not live-time videos... It's actually photographs pieced together by the people at Google and forming maps. Some photographs are taken ages ago and aren't updated yet...)

Anyway, I was toying around with the Google Earth coz I was sorta like clearing my desktop and I had this thing for like a long time but didn't bother to use it.

With it, I saw where Man United play football, where I ate Fish and Chips in Fremantle, Australia, where Ying Jian studies in Japan, where I live, and most of all...

I saw our church!!!

Encountered real bad weather in the morning.. so hopes were sort of dashed when we had to consider to go ahead with the wet weather plans.. but after prayers were made by many 'prayer warriors'.. the grey skies just sort of disappeared.. so 1st lesson learnt from this outing.. prayers powers.. really powerful..
Secondly.. thank Angie for this wonderful planning.. guessed all of us had a tired day.. but we enjoyed it a lot.. thanks!! =) Really glad that new friends get to join us today.. Special thanks to them.. hopefully they would turn up more often in BSF..

hey! this is the first time i'm bloggin n i'm giving my first time to u guys!

firstly, i wanna thank the Lord for the creation of this fellowship!

i've heard alot of compliments on how this fellowship is creating an impact in church because in here i've seen all of u being active in church and most importantly showing love to one another, breaking the gender barrier in the process. this is the foundation u need to construct in order to build the tower of which faith and action can be built, seen and admired. in this tower the Lord must be the main pillar of it, and all of us are jus bricks waiting to be cemented.

this is something tt is unprecedented in bethel. or maybe i havent live long enuff to see. and one of the most interesting thing tt i observed is the platonic relationships which u all have with one another, it's a major plus point because it's more effective to receive what God wants u to have and to give what God has given u. u guys are really growing in faith and action!

secondly, i wanna talk abt the church camp. the church camp is the most laidback camp i've been to. but it's the one which left me with the most impression because the topic discussions spoke rite into my heart.

as christians, we have to look forward and plan our lives wisely. i may sound like an economist, but this is the best way to optimize the time we can put forward for the Lord to use! but planning ahead, u can give out more time n energy for the Lord, u can see how God has been guiding u because every good thing tt happens to u is a blessing and ever bad thing is a blessing in disguise, think abt it!

and as youths to spend ur time doing the Lord's work is extremely rewarding! i can see some of the rewards tt the Lord has already given or waiting to be revealed! i've a everloving family, gf, church frens to support me in times of need, i've gotten a place in the course and university tt i've prayed for, and i'm still waiting to see more rewards for me because God promised us tt we'll have treasures in heaven! most impt reward is tt i'm able to recognize God's love and being able to walk with the Lord in the most depressing times in life! i dun really refer to ns actually haha

frm the talks, we also learn abt not criticizing and not bearing grudges( cant rem the 3rd one heh).

i wonder if u guys realize, tt christians do give thanks n encourage ppl often! tt's y i make it a point to learn to encourage ppl whenever i can. and giving is a form of blessing, an affirmation frm God follows! we must encourage ppl because we are looking at the postive aspects of life. our society lacks love and compassion, and quite alot of ppl dun have a chance to know tt they have a loving God. so as christians we have to live under a value added culture in the sense tt we add value to each other's life, be a product of God with positive externalities! do it with a sincere heart=)

and in the camp we learn abt how ppl in our lives touched and pointed us towards the lord and accompanied us in our christian life. they make an impact in our lives, can u think of some of em? do u want to be like em, drawing ppl closer to God? i'm fortunate tt i've shufeng, ah chu, ah kim, xiangyun( our old shao nian tuan qi mentor) , joyce, elder jye, rev tay, wenbin, yiren, and alot more to guide me when i was younger. thank God for em!

and of cuz during the camp we had alot of fun, we drank and ate alot too! haha quite sinful leh, i wonder how much weight i've put on hur hur hur hur hur. wake boarding was fun too! n i realized somebody can be such a pig, slp n slp n slp.. muahaha

alrite i'll sign off here first, will continue my part 2 sometime later!

Hello guys!! Welcome back to Singapore :) Everyone who went to Batam church camp would agree with me that it was fantastic. I'd admit that I've grown spiritually throughout the camp by receiving God's words and have heard UNCOUNTABLE testimonies of his amazing love!

Here's an overload of pictures. you could see that the youths especially,enjoyed themselves.

-The super super late nights (where I happened to be always the first one to fall asleep. and thankyou Joseph for smacking me whilst I was asleep)

- Turning our 404 room into a warzone with snacks, donuts and drinks strewn everywhere.

-VERY DELICIOUS J.Co donuts courtesy of kelvin&kenneth's family

- Heartattack-pig game where SOME OF US deliberately turned 'dumb' in order not to advance to the next level of pig(hehe...and forcing Esther to eat the donuts)

- Trying hard to get out of bed for the spiritual quiet time sessions with our mentors

- Suggestions to change the protocols and procedures of church where it could be extremely heart-warming at times

- WAKE-BOARDING. haha & sadly, the girls couldnt make it at least one round of the man-made lagoon/lake. I admit I was the lousiest

- AND YAY WE WON THE BEST VISUAL EFFECT FOR: THE LORD OF THE RINGS skit.

(cos lights were out..dark dark noone cld see anything..only hear kenneth's horribly broken hokkien :) )

okay finally, some peronal thankyous to the following indviduals and grp of ppl since I've missed my chance to give thanks during the thanksgiving session:
-The organisers( Tauwei, Dr.Eugene, Wenbin,Joyce, sufong,Rev.tay): A job well done. The camp was a success from the bottom of my heart.

- Music Ministry(Victor,cindy, weiming,Christopher, Dr.Eugene, Xinwei, Kim, meiqi, Joseph): very nicely planned. Praise & worship was so lively because of u guys! I wish these moments could last forever.

- Children Ministry( Meijia, wenyan, cindy): Thanks for the guidance and the faith u had in me:) giving me confidence that I'm god-given to serve in the children ministry.

- Wakeboarders (Joseph, Gabriel, Christopher, Debra, Esther, Kenneth, Jo's bro-in-law): Thanks for being so understanding and explaining me the technique of holding the board.)

- MY GROUP MEMBERS ( kelvin, xinwei, Esther, Kenneth, Angeline, Karryn, Amos, Clement, James, Bryan): Though you guys could be naughty naughty but I still enjoy the times we had together. the joy and laughter :) priceless.

-MY CELL GRP MEMBERS (weiming, Angie, yongkai, Debra, Linus, Gabriel, Joseph, Abrey, Shienen, Zen...just everyone else): I couldn't join u guys cos of my commitment with the bsf group but u guys are still my great brothers and sisters in christ!)

Yay-ness, Parents Day was a success! Well done! I'm really glad that the parents turned up and were really enthusiastic (especially at the games). They're like an even noisier bunch than us hahaha...

One pleasant surprise this year for me is the privilege of spending time with you as part of my field attachment for ministry preparation. The last five months have been filled with great memories. CIP at TTSH

Two reflections to share:

1. When we offered to sing, a middle aged Chinese man suggested songs by Zhou Xuan, a very popular 1920s singing sensation. This man knew the songs that my father used to sing . This encounter brought back good memories of my earlier days listening to my father sing esp when taking his bath. Three worlds- this man's, my father's, and mine - come together in one moment on a lazy afternoon in a little corner of Singapore.

2. The walk through the wards, seeing the patients enduring different sorts of setbacks - from physical afflictions to alcoholic dependency to mental problems- helped me come to terms with my posting after my coming graduation. I was supposed to be seconded to the Synod doing Mission type work but when the current chaplain at All Saint's Nursing Home decided to leave in June, the handbrake was pulled and a U-turn was made. I have to fill her shoes. Initially I was upset, even angry. The Lord through the CIP helped me find peace. I was reminded that nobody was unimportant to God. Everyone,including the bedridden, matters to our heavenly Father.

A big thanks to the organizers and the very brave participants of this 'unhappenning' event.

Hello BSF!!!!!!!!!!!

Seeing that mid-years are here, I've decided to share some tips on how to write a composition effectively!! =)

How to write a proper composition:

1) Never ever ever ever write a narrative because trying to come up with a plot is very time-consuming and probably leave you with about a bit more than half the time allowed. Remember that your composition is to be taken together with you letter writing, so time-management is vital here.

And even after coming up with a plot, you may write until you get stonewalled and be unsure of how to continue. Plus, it is very difficult to give each character a distinct enough personality to differentiate itself. Most of the time, the dialogue sounds like a person trying to talk both sides of a conversation.

2) Avoid writing descriptives at all costs! Even when you have a wide vocabulary sufficiently substantial for such a compo, imagine how your teacher feels when he or she is marking the paper? He or she would get his or her butt bored off reading phrases like "the ostentatious glint on the golden ring practically screams for attention." all over the compo.

Most people have problems just trying to meet the most basic criteria of descriptive writing: painting a vivid mental picture for the reader without boring them off. You also have to watch your tenses here, which might cause a big problem

3) If you choose to write expositories, do it only if you have expertise over the subject. This will give you an advantage over your fellow examees. There is this phrase that is used in the media industry: "Content is King". If you have fresher, more novel information over your rivals, your content will take the to list.

But the most vital in this type of composition are the 'transition phrases' like 'Firstly, then, subsequently, etc.' so brush up on such phrases before youre exams as it might just come in handy. Remember to write everything in past tense.

4) That leaves us with argumentative/persuasive compositions, the one I recommend to write. There are usually 2 topics available for this sub-genre, so the variety is available for you to choose from.

The thing about this is to get as many unique points as possible and list them down before you start writing. For example, for the topic 'Marriage', you can write about how marriage came about through the ages, from the age where betrothal was the way to go to the different type of marriages now i.e. shotgun marriages, purchasing of brides, etc.

The most important thing about writing this kind of compositions is the style of writing. You write as if you are speaking/arguing with the teacher. This is important because you are writing to convince the teacher of your viewpoint. It is of utmost importance that the teacher comprehends what you are saying and can relate to your writing.

5) Of course it helps if you have perfect grammar in writing your compositions, and there is only 1 way to perfect your grammar, which is to read. Reading can be very interesting. For starters, try searching something you are interested in on Wikipedia and read everything related to it.

For example, try searching under blogging and learn all the interesting stuffs like how it originated and whatnot. It can also help increase your general knowledge.

Yeah, so that's all for my *tips*, hope it's been more of a help than a hindrance =D

Hi Denise As discussed, please note the following:

1) Pls distribute oranges instead (as it is easier to be served if patients wants to eat it). You will need around 80 oranges for 2 wards.
2) Please report to the Nursing Officers of Wards 5C and 5D at 4 pm before you proceed with your activities. The nurses will give intructions (if any) when interacting with the patients, please follow the instructions accordingly. As explained, though these are psychiatric wards, the patients are harmless and can be engaged in conversations
3) Please provide a list of volunteers (name, IC and contact nos) and lyrics of religious songs that will be sung
4) Please be respectful of patients religion
5) We encourage your group to wear the same attire if poss, so its easier for nurses to identify your group members
6) If any volunteer is unwell, please do not particpate in the activities.
7) Please wash your hands right after your volunteer activities. You can find the basin/soap at every ward.
8) Lastly, please check with the nurses if you are unsure of anything We always welcome volunteer groups who are able to commit on a regular basis.

I would be happy to discuss this further with your leaders.

Just by visiting them and sending words of encouragement, it can bring smiles to their faces and is definitely beneficial to their healing process :D

Each church can only send in max four teams, one for each of the four categories:

Boys only (street soccer style, boots required on the field)

- 7 aside capt's ball (13-18 year-olds)
